I re-opened the light settings and the slider is exactly where it was before I slid it all the way to the right: I move the slider all the way to the right to have full brightness: I press F4, then 3 to access the light settings. Reducing the brightness didn't do anything. There is a slider at the bottom labeled Dashboard backlight, which lets you adjust the brightness of the dashboard.
